Atlas gets unveiled, Introducing: Project Bellwether, Stable Diffusion 3 is here

It really is a robotic revolution.

Hello, Starters!

Although we've covered different topics this week, there's a noticeable trend emerging: robotics. Boston Dynamics has just released one of its innovations, and as we've mentioned before, we're not too far from having helpful robots surrounding us!

Here’s what you’ll find today:

  • Boston Dynamics presents Atlas

  • Project Bellwether: AI to predict natural disasters

  • Stable Diffusion 3 is now available via API

  • Intel released Hala Point

  • Google’s push for AI-generated ads

  • And more.

Boston Dynamics is well-known in the robotic industry for its innovations, such as Spot. Now, they're unveiling an all-electric version of their humanoid robot, Atlas, with improved strength and a wider range of motion, setting the stage for real-world applications. The company is focused on addressing numerous industrial challenges through the use of humanoid robots and has partnered with companies like Hyundai to test its capabilities.

AI plays a key role in robot development, enabling creations such as Atlas to utilise methods like reinforced learning or computer vision to understand their surroundings and optimise their performance.

Alphabet has launched Project Bellwether, an initiative that harnesses AI technology to predict and respond to natural disasters like wildfires or flooding effectively and quickly.

Through machine learning models and a partnership with the United States National Guard's Defense Innovation Unit, the project team expects to reduce response times and identify the areas most affected by natural disasters, potentially saving thousands of lives.

After releasing a demo a few weeks ago, Stability AI has finally presented Stable Diffusion 3, which is now accessible via API with upcoming plans to release model weights for self-hosting.

Stable Diffusion is currently on par with similar models such as DALL-E 3 and Midjourney, with Stability taking steps to enhance its safety and prevent misuse, given its availability as an open-source model.
