🌐 Cohere introduces Aya 23 (3 min)
Cohere for AI, a research non-profit part of the AI startup Cohere, has released the weights for Aya 23, a family of multilingual models ranging from 8B to 35B parameters, based on Cohere's original model, Aya 101. This state-of-the-art model serves (you guessed it) 23 languages, including English, German, Spanish, and more.
An open release of these models holds incredible value for AI research. As the majority of known models are optimised and trained in English, the need for multilingual models grows with AI's global expansion. This democratises access and ensures the development of new innovations.
Video generation is one of the trendiest fields in AI development, and as the flood of offerings grows, there's unseen competition for advanced tools. Krea AI is aware of this, so they've recently released a video creation feature enabling users to feed the model with keyframes, alongside text prompts and images. This gives creators total control over their projects, allowing them to decide the duration and appearance of content in the video.
The feature is available for Krea users with a limited free trial.
Mark Zuckerberg has announced the creation of the "Meta Advisory Group," a team that will advise on the company's AI efforts. The group is formed by well-known names in the industry, such as Nat Friedman, former CEO of GitHub; Tobi Lutke, CEO of Shopify; Patrick Collison, CEO and co-founder of Stripe; and Charlie Songhurst, former executive at Microsoft.
This move ensures Meta's heading in the right direction. Zuckerberg has expressed his gratitude to the group, claiming its expertise and input might unlock new opportunities for Meta in AI and the metaverse.
🎥 Google and Meta are turning to Hollywood to secure licensing deals that will grant them access to data that could improve their models, especially those dedicated to video generation. Reports suggest they have offered "tens of millions of dollars" to companies like Netflix, Disney, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
😥 Reports suggest that Samsung's HBM chips failed Nvidia's tests for use in AI processors due to heat and power issues. If true, this impacts both the HBM3 and the upcoming HBM3E chips. However, Samsung has denied these claims, stating that tests are proceeding well and the chips only need optimization.
