GPT-4o is here!, Get ready for Google I/O 2024, Claude lands in Europe

Shocking is not enough of a word.

Hello, Starters!

Ideas we used to see in sci-fi movies are now becoming more real thanks to OpenAI's new flagship model. In just a few years, AI has reached milestones in development that are beyond our comprehension. And to think, this is just the start.

Here’s what you’ll find today:

  • OpenAI proudly presents GPT-4o

  • Google I/O 2024: What’s in store?

  • Anthropic’s Claude is finally available in Europe

  • Meta’s upcoming “CameraBuds”

  • Fugaku-LLM is a powerful Japanese model

  • And more.

After seemingly endless weeks of rumours and hints, OpenAI has finally introduced its new flagship model, GPT-4o (the "o" stands for "omni"). This model is turning heads in the AI world for its real-time comprehension of audio, vision, and text. GPT-4o can have a full conversation with you, answering to images and text, while being completely aware of the context, similar to human responses.

During the keynote, OpenAI showcased many of the use cases for this new technology, which includes real-time translation, meeting assistance, and more. GPT-4o surpasses GPT-4 Turbo in speed and is 50% cheaper.

This announcement also shut down the discussion of the mysterious "gpt2-chatbot," which all this time was just a small tease of GPT-4o's capabilities, ones that are similar to things we've seen in movies and are now being launched for ChatGPT's users. Things are about to get very exciting!

It is also Google's time to shine as developer season starts, and they're ready to give an update on all of their offerings at their annual I/O conference, which, just like last year's, is expected to be completely overtaken by AI.

The live stream is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PT today, with many users expecting announcements in hardware, the newly released "Project Starline," and probably more insights into Gemini.

As a way to build more anticipation for the conference, Google released a sneak peek yesterday of what looks like an AI-driven version of Google Lens. We'll just have to wait and see what's coming.

One of the top AI assistants is finally flying across the pond. Anthropic has revealed that they're officially expanding Claude's availability to Europe starting today. This includes access to Claude's web-based version, the iOS app, and the Claude Team plan for business.

Claude is capable of understanding French, German, Italian, and Spanish, so this expansion makes sense as the company continues to grow and further develop its AI systems.
