💸 Microsoft is investing in AI giant G42 (2 min)
Microsoft is broadening its presence in the AI landscape worldwide with the announcement of a significant investment in G42, one of the most prominent AI firms in the UAE.
Although they have already collaborated, this deal showcases both a strategic move and a means to promote Microsoft's technologies in the region, aiming to develop safe AI applications.
Promoting open-source development once more, Hugging Face has upgraded its Idefics visual language model with enhanced Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities and a smaller size.
Idefics2 is an 8B parameter, general multimodal model that can understand text and image prompts, as well as answer queries about charts, figures, and documents. The model is now available under an open licence on Hugging Face.
⚙️ Intel’s commitment to open source AI tools (3 min)
The Linux Foundation, alongside Cloudera and Intel, has introduced the Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA) Project, a joint effort focused on the development of open, interoperable, and modular generative AI systems, specially designed for enterprise use.
OPEA is yet another demonstration of how open-source innovation can drive collaboration and responsible development for communities in the current AI landscape, as more enterprises look forward to secure tools to optimise their workflows.
