OpenAI seeks training data, DeepMind’s Genie AI, Together AI unveils Evo

How much data is too much data?

Hello, Starters!

We share a similarity with AI models, in that we both seek information to answer complex questions. However, as we can't process it as fast as them, we're here to offer a helpful summary.

Here’s what you’ll find today:

  • OpenAI & Midjourney want Automattic’s data

  • Google DeepMind presents Genie AI

  • Together AI introduces Evo

  • Google is trying to fix Gemini

  • GitHub releases Copilot Enterprise

  • And more.

As the need for data to train models grows, AI companies are seeking more partners across the industry. This is the case for Automattic, the owner of Tumblr and WordPress, which is reportedly on its way to an imminent deal with OpenAI and Midjourney to leverage data from users' posts for training.

We're not unfamiliar with this move, as we've already witnessed OpenAI's quest for data in media outlets such as the Associated Press and Axel Springer. However, this time, it seems the perspective is shifting to websites mostly used by the creative community.

Google DeepMind has made what seems like a giant leap in game development. They've presented Genie, an AI model capable of turning prompts into interactive worlds while also enabling characters to explore them freely.

Nonetheless, researchers at DeepMind believe that Genie's potential indicates not just a change in the way gaming experiences are created; they also strive for broader applications, which include the development of world models for robotic applications.

Together AI has recently introduced Evo, a biological foundation model developed in collaboration with the Arc Institute. This model stands out for its ability to understand and work with the building blocks of life: DNA, RNA, and proteins.

Built on the StripedHyena architecture, Evo can predict and design at molecular to whole-genome scales. Thanks to its training on a vast amount of genetic information, Together AI is confident that the model will enhance our understanding of biology and "the capacity to engineer life itself."

Gemini's generative image capabilities are on hold after creating inaccurate historical depictions that offended users. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, has labelled this situation "unacceptable" and assured that the company is actively working to resolve it.

🎙️Continuing to boost AI for business, GitHub has announced the general availability of Copilot Enterprise, a powerful AI tool that can be easily customised to a company's codes and processes, enhancing efficiency and overall knowledge.
