Stanford’s AI state ‘24, Adobe’s video model, AI’s knowledge crash

Is there an AI overload?

In partnership with

Hello, Starters!

We know the word AI has been around a lot this year, but is it as impactful as it appears to be? Or is there too much unnecessary buzz?

Here’s what you’ll find today:

  • Stanford resumes AI’s impact in 15 graphs

  • Adobe Premiere gets AI tools

  • Can AI lead to a “knowledge collapse”?

  • Poe’s new multi-bot chat

  • Reka unveils Reka Core

  • And more.

A report published by the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence showcases, in a series of graphs, how AI has influenced our world in 2024. The AI Index keeps track of investments, leading companies, model costs, and more.

Some of the highlights of the report include that AI development has led to a surge in diversity in computer science degrees. Also, it positions the US as one of the countries with more foundational models, while Google holds the top spot for the most releases.

Adobe has announced the integration of an AI video model for its Firefly offerings, which will include new tools for Premiere Pro. Alongside these tools, there will be third-party integrations from Runway, Pika Labs, and OpenAI's Sora models, allowing users to generate videos or integrate/remove objects through text prompts.

At the moment, there's only a demo available as Adobe has yet to set a release date, claiming that the generation tools will roll out "this year."

A research study by Andrew J. Peterson from the University of Poitiers highlights an intriguing circumstance that could occur if we continue to rely excessively on the information provided by large language models.

Peterson warns of a potential "knowledge collapse" as the available training data may lead the model to prioritise only the most common perspectives, disregarding rare or unconventional ideas. This trend could potentially limit knowledge and hinder research for those who rely on AI models as their primary source of information.

85% of all AI Projects Fail, but AE Studio Delivers

We’re a development, data science and design studio working with founders and execs on custom software solutions. We turn AI/ML ideas into realities–from chatbots to NLP and more.

Tell us about your visionary concept or work challenge and we’ll make it real. The secret to our success is treating your project as if it were our own startup.

💬Intending to become a "web browser" for conversational AI, Quora has introduced a new feature for its chatbot Poe. The "multi-bot chat" enables users to interact with multiple AI models simultaneously in a conversation, simply by @-mentioning them.

🤖Reka, an AI startup founded by former DeepMind, Google, and Meta members, has introduced a multimodal language model called Reka Core, with the ability to understand images, audio, and video. What sets Reka Core apart is that, with only a year of training, it has already matched the performance of the current top models in the field.
