What’s OpenAI’s plan?, IBM’s “Granite Code”, Apple might revamp Siri
There are surprises on the horizon.
Hello, Starters!
We are beginning a new week that is set to bring us plenty of announcements. Both OpenAI and Google have surprises in store, so let's keep our eyes very open to what's coming next!
Here’s what you’ll find today:
OpenAI’s “magical” announcement is happening today
IBM presents its “Granite Code” models
Apple’s big AI move might focus on Siri
Stability AI lands on Discord
ElevenLabs unveils a new musical model
And more.
We've been hearing a lot about OpenAI's upcoming plans. Is it GPT-5? Is it a search engine? But CEO Sam Altman diminished the discussion by saying that this "new stuff" felt like magic. So what are we actually expecting? Today is the day we find out all about it.
Sources claim that despite the announcement not being a search engine, it could involve things related to searching or maybe an AI voice assistant. However, what is for sure is that this series of changes will transform how we currently use ChatGPT. We'll just have to wait and see the live stream at 10 a.m. PT on OpenAI's website.
🪨 IBM presents its “Granite Code” models (1 min)
IBM is giving a helping hand to developers by open-sourcing a family of models called "Granite Code," which are aimed at simplifying the coding process. The models range from 3, 8, 20, and 34 billion parameters and have already surpassed other open-source competitors.
The training involved 116 programming languages, which brings a wider understanding, as well as selected data that includes high-quality code and natural language that improves their reasoning abilities.
🍎 Apple’s big AI move might focus on Siri (2 min)
Plenty of us have been awaiting big AI moves from Apple, but it's evident that's not the way the company usually tends to work. So, despite the pressure to position itself as a threat for many in the AI race, Apple is continuing with its cautious approach, which may be focused on improving what's already there, and that translates into Siri.
Apple's WWDC is set to happen in June, and as the date gets closer, we've noticed the results of their efforts through many research papers. Yet, the big reveal hasn't happened, and what is very likely is that it involves changes to iOS, text summarization, local processing, and making Siri a better assistant with a bit of AI sprinkled in.

🧑💻Stability AI follows Midjourney's path by bringing its GenAI capabilities to Discord. The company has revealed Stable Artisan, a Discord bot for generating images and videos. The service is subscription-based but offers a 3-day free trial.
🎵ElevenLabs, well-known for their work on AI voice generation, is teasing a new model that turns prompts into song lyrics. Although the model isn't available yet, they're asking users on social media to provide ideas to showcase the results. This approach could potentially bring more changes to the AI music field.
